My name is Pim Nijssen and I am a PhD student at the Department of Knowledge Engineering at the Maastricht University in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

I studied Knowledge Engineering at the Maastricht University from 2004 to 2007. I received my bachelor degree in the summer of 2007 with my thesis titled Playing Othello Using Monte Carlo.

After completing the bachelor program, I continued my study with the master Artifical Intelligence at the Maastricht University. In January 2009 I defended my master thesis titled Using Intelligent Search Techniques to Play the Game Khet.

From May 2009, I am working as a PhD student. My main research topic includes applying and improving Monte-Carlo Tree Search in multi-player games (Focus and Chinese Checkers) and hide-and-seek games (Scotland Yard).
